Gene K. Cheever
Principal
Gene K. Cheever is a Principal in the firm's Business and Construction Litigation Department. He specializes in business litigation with an emphasis on construction matters. His practice involves representing clients through all aspects of the judicial system as well as counseling clients and resolving disputes without resort to the judicial court system. Regardless of whether the dispute is already in the judicial system or is heading in that direction, Gene has extensive experience in representing clients and helping them resolve disputes through mediation or arbitration.
Gene's construction practice includes representing contractors and owners in claims involving delay, acceleration, construction defects, differing site conditions, design errors, extra work, mechanic's liens, stop notices and public contract bid disputes. Gene also has substantial experience in matters involving real estate disputes, business tort and contract disputes, collection disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith disputes, and general business disputes. Gene is a member of the California State Bar and its Litigation Section and the Sacramento County Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all of the California courts as well as the United States District Courts in California. Gene serves on the Crocker Art Auction Committee, and is a graduate of Leadership Sacramento, a program administered by the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce which offers a year-long curriculum to up-and-coming business leaders.
Gene received his B.A., cum laude, from Yale College in 1985. He received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1990. While at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Gene was published in the Journal of International Business Law.
